NEW YORK - Jamaal Glenn spoke at Boardswell's 2023 Board Strategies Leadership Summit, an invitation-only gathering of corporate leaders, board directors, investors, and executives at the New York Times Building.
Glenn moderated the summit's only panel on private-company governance, putting specific 2024 boardroom questions on the table: geopolitical risk, generative AI, tighter venture-capital and private-equity markets, and the demands grouped under ESG.
The discussion used OpenAI's 2023 leadership crisis as a live governance case, examining what its board turmoil showed about oversight, board composition, management accountability, and the practical responsibilities of a director. It also addressed how boards should plan for capital when interest rates were at their highest level in more than a decade and venture funding, valuations, private-equity activity, and IPOs had all fallen.
The session included David Graff, a Google executive and director of Fluent, and Tao Tan, a director of Spectaire.
