MEXICO CITY - Mexico Today published an op-ed by Jamaal Glenn arguing that Mexico's growing appeal to remote workers will create durable economic benefits only if cities make housing supply responsive to demand.
In "Densely Built Housing & Mexico's Remote Worker Influx," Glenn writes that talent attraction can bring spending, investment, and new professional networks. But when new demand meets a constrained housing supply, the gains can come with higher costs for existing residents.
Glenn argues that the first policy response should be more thoughtful land-use rules and the construction of affordable, densely built housing in the places people most want to live. He also points to digital-nomad visas as a way for governments to acknowledge and manage the new geography of work.
